Blog Prompt #11

Scenario #1
According to my definition of having career success, the tobacco employee is experiencing career success.
For the simple reason, he is not gaining any satisfaction from his job and has go home to his family knowing that he is selling harmful products to his community. Not having a high morale would probably correlate to low production in terms of his job.
Having an abundance of money does grant you happiness, but perhaps it is the impact we make on the lives of others.

Monday Nov. 7 Online Class Assignment

1.
A.      From viewing page 3, I definitely feel that I could try to show the importance of my paper by adding attention grabbing sentences. I really need to be more clearly on what exactly I’m trying to prove is at stake. I absolutely love the method used in the example how it forces the reader to think about the questions.
B.      In my conference with Mrs. Butler, we discuss how I could improve my style of writing. I really wanted make that apparent in my paper this time, but not exactly sure how to do that mainly because I feel that my paper has a weak topic.
C.      Very interesting question! I want to catch my reader’s attention and prove what is at stake so perhaps:  Students enter the world with hopes of having that one chance to get the job of their dreams.
2.
B. I do not feel that this is a problem for me. I clearly get my point across in my topic sentences for each of my paragraphs. I feel the problem could be more of whether the topic is strong or not.
3.
Job satisfaction is the most important measure of career success. To be given an opportunity to actually perform a job that makes you happy can lead to a very prosperous life. There certain qualities that can be expected when an individual achieves their personal job satisfaction. There are many other factors that can be accounted with career success. Money is definitely a part of career success, but there is a question that money does not have an answer for. Some would consider being famous a part of career success, but now everyone for some reason has become really nice and somehow knows you “personally.”  All criteria can be reasonably argued as in terms of being the true definition of career success. Why settle for being just happy when you can buy everything?
This is actually the introduction to my paper. I don’t feel like I have a strong argument, and seeking a way to improve that so any help could be useful. I believe if I could improve this aspect of my paper my paper would definitely be an overall stronger and better paper.
4.
Money is a huge part in today’s economy and will always be. Having that ability to purchase anything we want is definitely satisfying because it is in our nature to always want more. To never have to worry about being in a difficult financial situation would definitely be a stress reliever for anyone. Having a higher income also means not only buying anything we want, but allowing us to be able to do the things we want to do. For example, take a beautiful vacation to a beach island resort, or go skiing in the gorgeous mountains. Having a higher income would also allow us to afford to send our children to college. There are numerous benefits to having a higher salary. Money is absolutely great to have, but some may argue that being famous is the most important measure of career success.
Being famous would have plenty of perks to offer. As stated previously, people will come to adore you, and you would have access to many luxurious places. In most cases, it is understood that a person who is famous has accomplished something in their lives. You are treated as an icon to the media and almost everyone wants to be like you because you are famous. Most celebrities are given special invites to very important televised events. For example, some celebrities are invited to the Grammy’s, MTV Movie Awards, or even the Super Bowl. To actually be famous has plenty of upside for people who are looking for this sort of career success.
I have two rebuttals for my paper one for each critic who may have an alternative opinion from mine. I acknowledge different perspectives of what is the most important measure for career success and how they are true. However, career success is all about being happy in life and sharing your accomplishments with others and money cannot buy you happiness, and once famous who can really share your accomplishments with or trust much less.

Blog Prompt #10

Claim:  A Baccalaureate degree does make someone more intelligent than someone who doesn't

Reason: College is designed to push and extend a student's skills and experiences. A student's character, intelligence, and common sense are tested each and every day with vigorous challenges. No one comes to college and spends thousands of dollars to hinder their potential for success. If this was the case then anyone could become a respected lawyer or a creative architect.

Warrant: A prestigious university is designed to improve an individual's assets to become more productive in their community. To be viewed as leaders among others.

Blog Prompt #9

1. I thought this blog prompt was actually very interesting. She hints that by women learning the hard skills, such as reading and writing, a women will begin to grow confidence in herself. Accepting their place as an individual in a complicated society that is male dominate thinking. An educated women should be treated equally and recognize their qualities as they make strides in life. I strongly believe this concept is widely accepted among modern day civilazation. Some of the most influential figures were indeed women. In fact, it could definitely be argued that this would to men as well.

2. During heer time period if this events actually occured then absolutely I agree with her. However, in today's university setting I don't feel that discrimination towards females is as relevant. Women as well as men are both given an equal oppurtunity to obtain a strong founded education, and use it to make a respectable future for themselves. I guess there will always be that mental outlook of men are better at this but women are better at this, but I don't feel that is much room for improvement or remedying this area.

Blog Prompt #8

1
a) I personally have never had that sort of experience, but a great example would actually be my grandfather, who when growing as a child could only speak Cajun French. Im sure he had the feeling of being pushed away when trying to learn to speek English in school.

b) It would definitely be a challenge in its own right. When home or at school were not expected to be as formal, or when we are wrong we don't necessarily make a big deal about it. However, when actually having to be familiar with the language in your career field things become rather difficult. For example, in Biology a student can not just memorize his notes and expect success especially when there can be over 300 different aspects that a student must learn.

c) Absolutely would "belonging" be important in my career field. I must have the proper knowlegde and insight on a particular topic to be considered a credited and reliable source. Having that proper knowlege would only benefit my success.

2
a) I think kids do change over time but by the example that our families give us. I do not believe that any form success is given, but is instead earned by hard work and dedication.

b) Yea i think it is possible to have intimacy with a language in a certain career field as long as that career field is something you truly enjoy. Someone who is positive and motivated will definitely fing their career field more fulfilling.

c) I don't think he felt that it was worth it because throughout the entire essay you can feel his undesirerable feelings for the English language.

Blog Prompt #7

I decided to do my rhetorical analysis paper on "Should English be the Law." I chose this one really because i found this interesting and feel that this has been a rather hot topic for quite awhile now. I feel that the author's purpose is to show the audience the argument and attempts to actually make English the only language allowed in the US, but was eventually accepted and understood not to be the problem American unity. The author's attitude was serious and informative about his topic. He provided examples and multiple dates and scenarios. I discovered that the author had used politics as his main evidence to defend his argument. For example, the second paragraph states that last year on August first a majority of Congress voted English the official language of the US. He also states that Bill Clinton had signed an English Only bill but says was a mistake. George W. Bush had also said he would oppose the bill in the state of Texas. At this point it begins to show how America is beginning to understand that having different languages is not a bad thing or threatens the unity of America.

Self-Respect

1. I find that Didion uses allusions to allow her audience to begin forming a connection with her thesis, which is the value of self-respect to one's self. She uses several different books, such as The Great Gatsby and Wuthering Heights, that the reader can relate to and create an personal image of her main points to help get a better understanding. Due to this reading's complexity, there were sections that were confusing and stressed the reader to have to maybe read it again, but I do not think this paper was alienating. Giving a personal experience and different alluisons the reader can still be capable of following the author's paper.

2. - Self-respect is something that our grandparents, whether or not they had it, knew all about.
-To do without self-respect, on the other hand, is to be an unwilling audience of one to an interminable documentary that details one's failings, both real and imagined, with fresh footage spliced in for every screening.
I think she means not to seek pity from your oppsosition, but rather accept the consequences of your mistakes. She states tht character is the willingness to accept responsibility for one's own life-is the source from which self-respect springs.

3.  Like self-respect, writing takes discipline and perfecting the small values, taking pride in the details. Having an impressive sense of self-respect requires never forgetting who and what we. The same aspect can be applied to writing as well, to write with self-respect presents the very possibility of forming a productive and disciplined written assignment that best represents our interests and ideals. I find that possesing a strong mental perspective on your values is definitly key in preserving your discipline. She states that "To say that Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eton is not to say Napoleon might have been saved by a crash program in cricket; to give formal dinners in the rain forest would be pointless did not the candlelight flickering on the liana call forth deeper, stronger disciplines, values instilled long before. It is a kind of ritual, helping us to remember who and what we are." She also makes note that small disciplines are valuable only insofar as they represent larger ones.
